US President Donald Trump has issued a chilling warning about what he considers to be the ‘greatest threat to humanity’.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0businessman<\/a>\u00a0said in an\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with Fox News on Sunday (9 March) that we shouldn’t be prioritising\u00a0climate change<\/a>\u00a0as ‘the biggest existential threat’.<\/p>\n

He told the broadcaster that ‘the level of destruction’ of nuclear weapons ‘is beyond anything you can imagine’.<\/p>\n

Trump<\/a>, 78, who is in charge of\u00a0America’s<\/a>\u00a05,044 warheads, which is only second to\u00a0Russia’s<\/a>\u00a05,500, said: “We spend a lot of\u00a0money<\/a>\u00a0of nuclear weapons – the level of destruction is beyond anything you can imagine.<\/p>\n

“It’s just bad that you have to spend all this money on something that if it’s used, it’s probably the end of the world.”<\/p>\n

The Republican insisted that he disagreed with former President\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0on his alleged prioritisation of global warming being a bigger concern.<\/p>\n

“The greatest is sitting on shelves in various countries called ‘nuclear weapons’ that are big monsters that can blow your heads off for miles and miles and miles,” he added.<\/p>\n

Trump also said that he sent a letter to Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with the hopes of negotiating a new deal with Tehran to restrain its advancing nuclear programme.<\/p>\n

He wants to replace their plan with the one he withdrew America from during his first term in office.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve written them a letter saying, \u2018I hope you\u2019re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it\u2019s going to be a terrible thing,\u2019” Trump said.<\/p>\n

“I would rather negotiate a deal. I\u2019m not sure that everybody agrees with me, but we can make a deal that would be just as good as if you won militarily.<\/p>\n

“But the time is happening now. The time is coming up. Something\u2019s going to happen one way or the other.<\/p>\n

“I hope you\u2019re going to negotiate because it\u2019s going to be a lot better for Iran and I think they want to get that letter.<\/p>\n

“The other alternative is we have to do something because you can\u2019t let them have a nuclear weapon.”<\/p>\n

This comes after Trump said last month that he wants to talk to China and Russia about de-escalating their nuclear weapons programme.<\/p>\n

“There’s no reason for us to be building brand new nuclear weapons. We already have so many,” he explained.<\/p>\n

“You could destroy the world 50 times over, 100 times over. And here we are building new nuclear weapons, and they’re building nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

“We’re all spending a lot of money that we could be spending on other things that are actually, hopefully, much more productive.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
