A Kremlin representative has spoken on Volodymyr Zelenskyy\u2019s apparent willingness to negotiate with Russia after Donald Trump read out a letter from the Ukrainian President in Congress.<\/p>\n

Last week (February 28),\u00a0US President Trump<\/a>\u00a0and Vice President JD Vance met with\u00a0Zelenskyy<\/a>\u00a0in the Oval Office to discuss\u00a0Ukraine<\/a>\u2019s ongoing war with\u00a0Russia<\/a>\u00a0among other things.<\/p>\n

The conversation escalated, with the Republican leader\u00a0claiming the country did not \u2018have the cards\u2019<\/a>\u00a0to rally against Vladimir Putin\u2019s forces, and that Zelenskyy was \u2018gambling with World War III\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’re gambling with the lives of millions of people”, Trump said. “You’re gambling with World War Three, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that’s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should have.”<\/p>\n

Trump also promised to\u00a0pause all military aid to Ukraine<\/a>\u2014a move Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said was the \u2018best contribution to the cause of peace<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Following\u00a0Zelenskyy\u2019s early exit from the White House<\/a>\u00a0and the cancellation of his and Trump\u2019s joint press conference, the\u00a0politician<\/a>\u00a0issued a letter to the 47th President of the United States.<\/p>\n

This note was read out to Congress<\/a>\u00a0in Washington yesterday (March 4) and stated: \u201cUkraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do really value how much\u00a0America<\/a>\u00a0has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump went on to read that Ukraine is also \u2018ready\u2019 to sign the agreement on rare earth minerals at \u2018any\u2019 time convenient to the US – an agreement they were supposed to sign during Zelenskyy’s visit, before getting into a heated discussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides,\u201d\u00a0The Apprentice<\/em>\u00a0star remarked.<\/p>\n

He also claimed there had already been \u2018serious discussions\u2019 about peace with Russia, but it is not known when these conversations took place.<\/p>\n

Now, it appears Moscow is looking favourably on the Ukraine leader\u2019s willingness to \u2018come to the negotiating table\u2019.<\/p>\n

“We are positive. The question is with whom to sit at the negotiating table,\u201d Peskov said.<\/p>\n

He noted that it was not currently clear how these talks would take place, due to a 2022 decree declaring that Ukraine would not negotiate with Russian leader Putin.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now, the legal ban by the Ukrainian President holding talks with the Russian side is in force.<\/p>\n

“Overall, the approach is positive, but the details have not changed yet.”<\/p>\n

Sky News\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that a Russian drone attack was launched last night (4 March) on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, killing a 77-year-old woman and injuring three others.<\/p>\n

Regional governor Oleh Kiper said the woman died of shrapnel wounds on the outskirts of the city, and that the drones had damaged private homes and started fires.<\/p>\n

In retaliation, Ukraine\u2019s air force has stated it shot down 115 of the 181 drones fired in the overnight attack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
