Greenland has hit back at Donald Trump’s claims he will take their land ‘one way or the other’ despite claiming the territory’s population are ‘incredible people’.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump\u00a0addressed Congress on Tuesday<\/a>\u00a0(March 4), where he revealed\u00a0Vladimir Putin has provided ‘strong signals’<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0for peace and detailed a\u00a0letter received from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/a>\u00a0amid the ongoing war in Europe.<\/p>\n

The 47th POTUS also had a\u00a0message for the people of Greenland<\/a>\u00a0in what was a somewhat confusing address.<\/p>\n

“If you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America,”\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

“We need Greenland for national security and even international security.<\/p>\n

“And we\u2019re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But we need it really for international world security.”<\/p>\n

Despite seemingly offering ‘the incredible people of Greenland’ the choice to ‘determine [their] own future,’ Trump then resolved: “And I think we\u2019re going to get it – one way or the other, we\u2019re going to get it.”<\/p>\n

And the president’s speech concluded with: “We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a very small population but very, very large piece of land and very, very important for military security.”<\/p>\n

Mute Egede, Greenland’s prime minster, has since hit back at the comments made by Trump with a quick witted 10-word response.<\/p>\n

He said: “We do not wish to be Americans. Greenland is ours.”<\/p>\n

He added: “We do not want to be Americans, nor Danes, we are Greenlanders.<\/p>\n

“The Americans and their leaders must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot just be taken. Our future is decided by us in Greenland.”<\/p>\n

Back in January, following\u00a0a ‘fiery’ call with Denmark’s Prime Minister<\/a>\u00a0– Greenland has been part of the Danish Kingdom since the 18th Century –\u00a0Trump told<\/a>\u00a0press: “I think we’re going to have it. I think the people want to be with us.<\/p>\n

“I don’t really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t allow that to happen because it’s for the protection of the free world.<\/p>\n

“I think Greenland, we’ll get because it has to do with freedom of the world.<\/p>\n

“It has nothing to do with the United States other than that we’re the one that can provide the freedom. They can’t.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
