Harvey Weinstein has released a statement after Oscar-winner Adrien Brody mentioned his children in his on-stage speech.<\/p>\n

Weinstein<\/a>, 72, is a convicted sex offender that has been sentenced to spend 16 years behind bars for two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape, following a Los Angeles trial.<\/p>\n

The former\u00a0film<\/a>\u00a0producer was also sentenced to 23 years in prison for one further count of\u00a0criminal<\/a>\u00a0sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree after a trial in New York, though this conviction was overturned as he now faces a retrial.<\/p>\n

Now, Weinstein is back in headlines following the events of the\u00a0Oscars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adrien Brody walked away from the awards with his second Best Actor award, for his role in\u00a0The Brutalist<\/em>\u00a0as L\u00e1szl\u00f3 T\u00f3th, an architect who goes to\u00a0America<\/a>\u00a0to rebuild his life.<\/p>\n

The win comes 12 years after his previous win in 2003 for his starring role in\u00a0The Pianist<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When he was announced as winner this year, Brody was seen\u00a0carrying out a gross act<\/a>, tossing the gum in his mouth out, for his partner to catch it.<\/p>\n

The actor was also involved in a bit of controversy on the red carpet, where Halle Berry\u00a0planted a surprise kiss<\/a>\u00a0on him in front of his partner, Georgina Chapman, more than 20 years after he did the same to her on stage.<\/p>\n

But in the 51-year-old’s winning speech, while many complained about the length, a lot of viewers missed out on a key detail – he mentioned Weinstein’s children.<\/p>\n

Well technically, the children in question are also Chapman’s, as the fashion designer was married to Weinstein for 10 years from 2007 to 2017.<\/p>\n

Speaking on stage with his Oscar, Brody said: “I share this with my amazing partner Georgina, who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth but my sense of value and my values and her beautiful children, Dash and India.”<\/p>\n

He then went on to reveal the nickname that Weinstein’s children have for him, saying: “It’s been a rollercoaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life, and Popsy’s coming home a winner.”<\/p>\n

Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, responded by\u00a0telling<\/a>\u00a0DailyMail.com: “Harvey is happy for Georgina and grateful that his kids are being loved and cared for as they deserve to be.”<\/p>\n

In October 2017, Chapman announced that she would be divorcing the film producer after over 100 women made accusations of rape, assault, or sexual harassment against him.<\/p>\n

The divorce was finalised in 2021.<\/p>\n

Weinstein became one of the focus points of the #MeToo movement, as he continues to deny that he raped or sexually assaulted anyone.<\/p>\n

As for his overturned New York trial, after the rape and sexual assault allegations were overturned in April 2023, a retrial was announced.<\/p>\n

It will take place on April 15, after the Court of Appeals determined that the original trial judge allowed testimony against Weinstein from women not part of the trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
