Another woman was spotted sat next to Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet for his big moment at the Oscars, as Kylie Jenner graciously gave up her seat. But why was this?<\/p>\n

The lovebirds were back again making yet another public appearance together at a prestigious awards show last night (2 March), as the\u00a0Oscar<\/a>\u00a0nominee, 29, rocked a bespoke yellow Givenchy suit, and his girlfriend, 27, wore a full-length black Miu Miu gown.<\/p>\n

Kylie<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e<\/a>\u00a0were spotted sharing intimate moments all night long on the front row, with the star having been nominated for Best Lead Actor for his role in the Bob Dylan\u00a0biopic<\/a>,\u00a0A Complete Unknown<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And while the pair were sat next to each other for the majority of the night, when it came to the moment that Best Lead Actor was announced, Kylie decided to switch out her seat.<\/p>\n

After a commercial break, the\u00a0Kardashians<\/em><\/a>\u00a0star was spotted behind her beau rather than by his side, but another woman had taken her place.<\/p>\n

Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that it was Timoth\u00e9e’s mum, who he gave special mention to at this year’s SAG Awards last month.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the awards ceremony, he said: “I\u2019ll start by thanking my mother who I\u2019m here with tonight. She has been working at Actors’ Equity for 40 years, in the stage union.”<\/p>\n

But Timoth\u00e9e didn’t get the chance to get up on stage for an acceptance speech at the Oscars, as the Lead Actor win ultimately went to\u00a0The Brutalist<\/em>‘s Adrien Brody.<\/p>\n

But the\u00a0Wonka<\/em>\u00a0star made it clear how seriously he took his role in the iconic biopic, and\u00a0how he hopes to one day become ‘one of the greats’<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After his win for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role at the SAG Awards a week ago, which he attended without Kylie, he said he was in ‘pursuit of greatness’.<\/p>\n

Timoth\u00e9e added: “I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role, and how much this means to me. But the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness.”<\/p>\n

He gave special mention to those who inspired him, as he said: “I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats, I’m inspired by the greats.<\/p>\n

“So I’m deeply grateful to that.”<\/p>\n

He concluded by saying: “This doesn’t signify that but it’s a little more fuel, it’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.”<\/p>\n

The gong instead went to\u00a0How Green Was My Valley,\u00a0<\/em>which it\u2019s fair to say has not stood the test of time to quite the same extent.<\/p>\n

To add insult to injury, Welles had a falling out with the Academy prior to the ceremony, and the audience booed every time his name was mentioned.<\/p>\n

Citizen Kane\u00a0<\/em>was nominated for nine Academy Awards, but only took home the statuette for Best Original Screenplay.<\/p>\n

E.T.\u00a0<\/em>loses to\u00a0Gandhi\u00a0<\/em>(1983)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Even Richard Attenborough, who ended up winning Best Picture for his biopic\u00a0Gandhi<\/em>, thought Steven Spielberg\u2019s\u00a0E.T.\u00a0<\/em>should have won.<\/p>\n

He is quoted in Joseph McBride\u2019s\u00a0Steven Spielberg: A Biography\u00a0<\/em>as saying of the moment his win was announced: \u201cI didn\u2019t go to the podium, I went over to Spielberg. He got up, I put my arms round him, and I said, \u2018This isn\u2019t right, this should be yours’.”<\/p>\n

Spielberg\u2019s tale of the bond between a lonely child and a horrifying looking alien remains one of the most beloved films of all time, absolutely dominating the box office following its 1982 release<\/p>\n

The Shawshank Redemption\u00a0<\/em>loses to\u00a0Forrest Gump\u00a0<\/em>(1995)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While both of these films are pretty much universally adored,\u00a0The Shawshank Redemption\u00a0<\/em>still tops IMDb’s 250 highest rated list and is regularly cited as one of the greatest movies of all time.<\/p>\n

While in hindsight, the fact the film failed to win any of the seven Oscars it was nominated for is pretty odd,\u00a0The Shawshank Redemption\u00a0<\/em>was a box office bomb, and in the year of its release was massively overshadowed by\u00a0Forrest Gump\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Pulp Fiction.<\/em><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, one fan admitted they were \u2018blown away to find out that the movie didn’t win a single Academy Award\u2019 on Reddit.<\/p>\n

In yet another upset for Steven Spielberg, his epic World War Two drama lost out to romcom\u00a0Shakespeare in Love.<\/em><\/p>\n

This has since been chalked up to the sinister machinations of Harvey Weinstein, who Den of Geek\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0started a \u2018whisper campaign\u2019 claiming the only good part of\u00a0Saving Private Ryan\u00a0<\/em>was the first 20 minutes, with the rest being \u2018sentimental hokum\u2019.<\/p>\n

DreamWorks marketer Terry Press recalls Spielberg telling him \u2018I do not want to get down in the mud with Harvey\u2019 when he was urged to fight back amid Weinstein\u2019s bullish campaign tactics.<\/p>\n

The following year saw another shock Best Picture upset, with the widely reviled\u00a0Crash\u00a0<\/em>triumphing over\u00a0Brokeback Mountain.<\/em><\/p>\n

A Reddit user called it \u2018truly the greatest robbery of all time\u2019.<\/p>\n

Director Ang Lee\u00a0claimed<\/a>\u00a0in a 2024 Deadline interview that support for his tragic gay love story \u2018had a ceiling\u2019 amid the Academy of the time.<\/p>\n

He even recalls being told to stay in the wings of the stage in-between his Best Director win and the announcement of Best Picture, being told by a stage manager: \u201cEverybody assumes you will win.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear this one still hurts for many cinephiles, with one calling\u00a0Crash<\/em>\u2019s win \u2018absolutely criminal\u2019.<\/p>\n
