The Oscars was an eventful evening for the cast and crew of\u00a0Emilia P\u00e9rez<\/em>, but for all the wrong reasons as controversy circling Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n took center stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a097th Academy Awards<\/a>\u00a0had the potential to be the perfect night for those involved in the production of the 2024\u00a0musical<\/a>, but with Gasc\u00f3n’s old tweets having allegedly cropped up in the last few months, it left a bitter taste for the team – despite scooping two awards.<\/p>\n

The hit movie was nominated for 13 statuettes in total, with Zoe Salda\u00f1a winning her category – Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role – and the film landing best original song. Gasc\u00f3n herself also made\u00a0history<\/a>\u00a0as she became the first\u00a0transgender<\/a>\u00a0actress to be nominated for an acting\u00a0Oscar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, all eyes were on Gasc\u00f3n and Selena Gomez, after one of the Spanish actress’ alleged tweets that resurfaced in recent months and has since been deleted, included the 52-year-old labeling her co-star 20 years her junior a ‘rich rat’.<\/p>\n

Commenting on a Spanish outlet’s tweet from October 2022, Gasc\u00f3n allegedly wrote: “She’s a rich rat who plays the poor b*stard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his\u00a0wife<\/a>,” which was a reference to\u00a0Justin<\/a>\u00a0and Hailey Bieber.<\/p>\n

Gasc\u00f3n denied all allegations made against her, including claims that she tweeted racist and Islamophobic remarks,\u00a0but also issued an apology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to CNN, she said: “It\u2019s not mine, of course. I have never said anything about my colleague I would never refer to her that way.<\/p>\n

“I am neither racist nor anything that all these people have tried to make others believe I am.”<\/p>\n

After the allegations cropped up,\u00a0Gomez<\/a>\u00a0spoke with PEOPLE and admitted the ‘magic’ had gone from the pure elation she once had from the connection she made with the\u00a0film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I’m good. I’m really good. Some of the magic has disappeared, but I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done, and I’m just grateful,” she\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0the publication.<\/p>\n

“I live with no regrets and I would do this movie over and over again if I could.”<\/p>\n

Now, for the first time, the pair were seen speaking to each other in the auditorium of the Dolby Theater in\u00a0Hollywood<\/a>, yesterday (March 2).<\/p>\n

Gasc\u00f3n, who opted to skip the red carpet following the controversy, walked up to Gomez – who was sat with fianc\u00e9 Benny Blanco – and said a brief hello.<\/p>\n

Gomez stood up from her seat to awkwardly kiss her co-star on the cheek, before Gasc\u00f3n shook Blanco’s hand.<\/p>\n

Later in the night,\u00a0Conan O’Brien referenced the ongoing saga<\/a>\u00a0between Gasc\u00f3n and Gomez during his skit.<\/p>\n

Addressing the crowd, he joked: “Anora<\/em>\u00a0uses the \u2018F-word\u2019 479 times – that\u2019s three more than the record set by Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s publicist.”<\/p>\n

Before laughing it off as being ‘incredibly silly’.<\/p>\n

He then added: “Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n is here tonight – and Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars… my name is\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
