The 2025 Oscars were full to the brim with memorable moments.<\/p>\n

Halle Berry ‘got revenge’<\/a>\u00a0on Adrien Brody on the red carpet after 22 years,\u00a0Wicked\u00a0<\/em>stars\u00a0Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande stunned<\/a>\u00a0in their opening performance and host Conan O’Brien threw caution to the wind with\u00a0risky comments about President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And, in a somber moment, actress Goldie Hawn shared a heartbreaking\u00a0health<\/a>\u00a0update while on stage with Andrew Garfield presenting the\u00a0Academy Award<\/a>\u00a0for Best Animated Feature Film.<\/p>\n

The 79-year-old Oscar winner – who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in 1969’s\u00a0Cactus Flower\u00a0<\/em>– was forced to stop partway through her speech because she was unable to read the teleprompter.<\/p>\n

She said: “I was so lucky [to] make movies… and making people laugh. And maybe some didn’t, but that’s OK.”<\/p>\n

“In the meantime…” Hawn continued, before stopping and turning to her co-presenter and going off-script. “OK. Sweetheart, can you read that? I can’t read that.”<\/p>\n

The actress then said: “I’m completely blind. I mean, I am,” before revealing that she was suffering from cataracts.<\/p>\n

According to<\/a>\u00a0the NHS, cataracts occur when the lens – a small transparent disc inside the eye – develops cloudy patches.<\/p>\n

Over time, these patches become bigger causing blurry vision and can eventually lead to blindness.<\/p>\n

Cataracts can affect people of all ages but are most common in older people, with age causing the breakdown of proteins in the lens.<\/p>\n

After her admission, Garfield, 41, calmly responded: “OK, I’ve got you,” before continuing the award presentation.<\/p>\n

But, it wasn’t the only touching moment during the pair’s time on stage.<\/p>\n

Earlier on in their speeches, Garfield shared the incredible impact Hawn’s acting had on his late mother.<\/p>\n

The actor, who lost his mum Lynn to cancer in 2019, thanked Goldie for giving her ‘the most joy, the most comfort’ through her\u00a0TV and film<\/a>\u00a0performances.<\/p>\n

“Can I tell you something?” he asked at the start of their presentation.<\/p>\n

“There’s someone, there’s a person who gave my mother during her life the most joy, the most comfort, and tonight, I feel very lucky, because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart.<\/p>\n

“You’ve given us movies full of joy. You’ve lifted our spirits and you’ve made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
