In a seemingly sarcastic post, he thanked America four times after its Vice President accused him of not being grateful for the support the US provided the country.<\/p>\n
He said: \u2018Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.\u2019<\/p>\n
This came after he received a dressing down for not being respectful enough to President Donald Trump during the dramatic showdown in front of journalists.<\/p>\n
Since then, European leaders have all sided with Zelensky, sharing messages of support on X which have been retweeted by the Ukrainian leader.<\/p>\n

Launching the attack, Mr Vance said: \u2018Mr. President, with respect, I think it\u2019s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media.\u2019<\/p>\n This came after Trump was repeatedly interrupted by his Ukrainian counterpart and even had this statement disputed.<\/p>\n A source familiar with the meeting at the White House told DailyMail.com that Zelensky\u2019s demeanor was surprising to American officials in the room.<\/p>\n \u2018No one expected the meeting to play out as it did, because nobody expected to act that way,\u2019 the source said.<\/p>\n Vance noted that Biden stood up for four years and \u2018talked tough\u2019 while \u2018thumping his chest\u2019 but Putin invaded Ukraine anyway.<\/p>\n \u2018The path to peace and the path to prosperity is maybe engaging in diplomacy,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n Zelensky explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin had been occupying parts of his country since 2014, beginning in Crimea, and that nobody would stop him and broke a negotiated ceasefire.<\/p>\n Trump blasted Zelensky for talking over him, saying: \u2018What you\u2019re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that\u2019s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should\u2019.<\/p>\n He went on to say: \u2018You have to be thankful. You don\u2019t have the cards. You\u2019re buried there. Your people are dying. You\u2019re running low on soldiers.<\/p>\n \u2018Listen, you\u2019re running low on soldiers. It would be a damn good thing\u2026 Then you tell us, I don\u2019t want a cease fire. I don\u2019t want to cease fire. I want to go and I want this\u2019<\/p>\n He added: \u2018You\u2019re either gonna make a deal our we\u2019re out. And if we\u2019re out you\u2019ll fight it out.\u2019<\/p>\n Following the meeting, the US president issued a statement on his Truth social saying President Zelensky was \u2018not ready for peace if America is involved\u2019 as he feels the \u2018[America\u2019s] involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations\u2019 and that he disrespected the country.<\/p>\n He said the two presidents had a \u2018very meaningful meeting\u2019 where \u2018much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure\u2019.<\/p>\n He added: \u2018I don\u2019t want advantage, I want peace. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office.
