The iconic actor’s daughters were seen in public for the first time following his shocking death alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The sisters appeared to be in good spirits as they dined together in California.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Elizabeth and Leslie Hackman were seen\u00a0stepping out together<\/a>, seemingly coping as they grabbed a meal at the all-day breakfast chain. Photos obtained by DailyMail.com captured the sisters arriving at the restaurant in a gray SUV.<\/p>\n

The outing came one day after Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their Santa Fe home. Despite the tragedy, the sisters managed to share a smile as they left.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“I know people grieve differently but when your dad was found like he did and also deaths being investigated they look way to [sic] happy and relaxed,”<\/i>\u00a0one social media user\u00a0commented<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Another\u00a0shared<\/a>,\u00a0“Their smiles look awfully disturbing,”<\/i>\u00a0while a third\u00a0typed<\/a>,\u00a0“They look very happy..why?!” “This whole thing is just weird and strange,”<\/i>\u00a0a fourth person\u00a0typed<\/a>\u00a0while a fifth\u00a0added<\/a>,\u00a0“Excited for the life insurance coming.”\u00a0<\/i>Another social media user\u00a0remarked<\/a>,\u00a0“Looking like they just hit the lottery.”<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Leslie had previously done an exclusive interview, breaking her silence on their father’s passing. “We were close. I hadn’t talked to them for a couple months, but everything was normal and everything was good,” she\u00a0shared<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Gene Hackman’s<\/a>\u00a0daughters previously described him as a private person and said he had been in good health prior to his sudden death. The family continues to wait for more answers as the investigation unfolds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As previously reported,\u00a0<\/strong>Gene and his wife were found dead in their Santa Fe Summit home on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26. Authorities have not suspected foul play, but an investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A caretaker was the first to\u00a0discover the bodies\u00a0<\/a>of Hackman and Arakawa, according to a 911 call made just before 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday. An affidavit later stated that maintenance workers also found the couple deceased.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The caller, visibly distressed, informed emergency responders that they were unable to enter the home. However, they could see two unresponsive individuals through the window. The caretaker\u00a0informed<\/a>\u00a0the dispatcher, “No, dude, they’re not moving. Just send somebody out here really quick.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sheriff deputies arrived at the couple’s home on Old Sunset Trail in response to this call,\u00a0where they found<\/a>\u00a0them and their dog deceased.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza later confirmed just after midnight on Thursday that the actor, his wife, and their pet had\u00a0passed away<\/a>. He stated that there were no immediate signs of foul play. However, he did not disclose\u00a0a cause of death<\/a>\u00a0or estimate when the couple had passed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The sheriff has also notified the public that he and his team are in the middle of preliminary investigations as they wait on the approval of the search warrant. He also assured the community of\u00a0their safety<\/a>, adding that they were in no imminent danger.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Gene, who had left the limelight, lived an adventurous life, experiencing\u00a0a winding path<\/u><\/a>\u00a0before his Hollywood breakthrough. He was 36 when he gained recognition in 1967’s “Bonnie and Clyde,” a role he landed after missing out on playing Mr. Robinson in “The Graduate.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Aside from these films, Gene took on a\u00a0wide range of roles<\/u><\/a>, portraying villains, heroes, and antiheroes across dramas, comedies, and action films from the 1960s until his retirement in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In an interview with Empire, he shared his reasons for retiring at 74. “The straw that broke the camel’s back was actually a stress test that I took in New York. The doctor advised me that my heart wasn\u2019t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress,” he\u00a0divulged<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unlike many in Hollywood, he largely stayed out of the social spotlight after retiring, making only occasional appearances at award shows. His retirement remained permanent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As for his personal life, Hackman met Betsy in the mid-1980s while she was working part-time at a gym in California. The 95-year-old author and his 63-year-old wife soon\u00a0moved in together<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and later settled in Santa Fe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They purchased a large\u00a0Southwestern-style ranch<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in a gated community with scenic views of the Rocky Mountains. Their home is located off Hyde Park Road just north of Ten Thousand Waves. Gene was a familiar presence in town and served on the board of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum during the 1990s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In his later years, he focused on writing novels. While he had three children from a previous marriage, he and\u00a0Betsy Arakawa<\/a>\u00a0did not have children together. In 1999, they adopted three German shepherds. The couple\u00a0enjoyed watching films<\/u><\/a>\u00a0together, particularly smaller, independent productions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
