American actress Michelle Trachtenberg – best known for her roles in both\u00a0Gossip Girl\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Buffy The Vampire Slayer<\/em>\u00a0– has reportedly died.<\/p>\n

According to a report\u00a0published<\/a>\u00a0by ABC News, the 39-year-old was found dead on Wednesday 26 February in a\u00a0New York City<\/a>\u00a0apartment near Columbus Circle, as per a\u00a0police<\/a>\u00a0source.<\/p>\n

Reports have also said her death is not being investigated as suspicious, and she is believed to have died of natural causes.<\/p>\n

Trachtenberg reportedly underwent a\u00a0liver transplant<\/a>\u00a0recently, as per ABC News.<\/p>\n

They added that an autopsy will soon be conducted by the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.<\/p>\n

New York-born Trachtenberg made her acting debut as a child star, bagging roles in Nickelodeon projects at a young age – including\u00a0The Adventure of Pete & Pete<\/em>, and the kids’ flick\u00a0Harriet the Spy.<\/em><\/p>\n

Her first serious role came in 1991 in an episode of\u00a0Law & Order.<\/em><\/p>\n

Between 2000-2003, she played fan-favourite formidable assassin Dawn Summers in\u00a0Buffy The Vampire Slayer.<\/em><\/p>\n

The role earned the star a Teen Choice Award nomination for choice TV sidekick<\/p>\n

In 2005, Trachtenberg landed the lead role of Casey Carlyle in teen sports comedy-drama\u00a0Ice Princess.<\/em><\/p>\n

Her most successful roles came in the years that followed, however.<\/p>\n

In 2008, she was cast as calculating high-schooler Georgina Sparks in teen hit\u00a0Gossip Girl<\/em>\u00a0– alongside the likes of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley.<\/p>\n

She also revived the much-loved role in the latest HBO Max reboot of the successful series.<\/p>\n

Following the news, tributes have been pouring in online from fans around the world.<\/p>\n

“rip michelle trachtenberg,” one wrote on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n

“i started ice skating because of the ice princess movie and her character was a huge inspiration for me :(“<\/p>\n

Another added: “michelle trachtenberg thankyou for giving us one of the most iconic female characters of all times. gossip girl would’ve been nothing without you.”<\/p>\n

A third gushed: “her style, her attitude made such an impression on me\u2026 she will be so missed”<\/p>\n

“im so heartbroken, Rest In Peace Michelle Trachtenberg, you will never be forgotten,” another continued.<\/p>\n

“rip michelle trachtenberg you will always be a legend my icon,” wrote a fifth fan.<\/p>\n

Ed Westwick, best known for playing Chuck Bass on\u00a0Gossip Girl\u00a0<\/em>alongside Trachtenberg, has now taken to\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0to pay tribute to the star.<\/p>\n

Writing on his story, the\u00a0British<\/a>\u00a0actor said: “So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg sending prayers,” accompanied with a prayer emoji and a white heart.<\/p>\n
