An official who is in charge of the Fort Knox $400 billion gold supply has responded to Elon Musk\u2019s claims that the gold could have gone missing.<\/p>\n

Musk<\/a>\u00a0has been making some wild claims about the state of government expenditure since taking over as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s not technically a government department,\u00a0President Trump<\/a>\u00a0stated that the team would act as an outside advisor on federal\u00a0spending<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since taking on the role, Musk has been hacking away at the government\u2019s budget by canceling contracts and making mass layoffs.<\/p>\n

Now, the\u00a0Tesla<\/a>\u00a0boss has gone one step further to claim that the US government\u2019s famous gold reserves at Fort Knox have gone missing.<\/p>\n

Taking to his own social media platform X, formerly\u00a0Twitter<\/a>, the billionaire began to question whether the gold was \u2018still there\u2019 or if it had \u2018gone\u2019.<\/p>\n

On Monday (February 17), Musk wrote: \u201cWho is confirming that gold wasn\u2019t stolen from Fort Knox?<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it\u2019s there, maybe it\u2019s not. That gold is owned by the American public! We want to know if it\u2019s still there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk even went as far as to call for a \u2018live video walkthrough\u2019 to make sure it was there.<\/p>\n

Trump weighed in on the matter, telling the press: \u201cWe hope everything\u2019s fine with Fort Knox, but we\u2019re going to go to Fort Knox…to make sure the gold is there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the gold isn\u2019t there, we\u2019re going to be very upset.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, the official who is in charge of the gold has set the record straight.<\/p>\n

Speaking<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0Bloomberg<\/em>, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, said: \u201cI can tell you that we do an audit every year. I can tell the American people on camera right now that there is a report from September 30th 2024, all the gold is there.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny US senator who wants to come and visit it can arrange a visit through our office.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk has also sparked controversy this week by\u00a0throwing slurs<\/a>\u00a0at an astronaut who called him out for a \u2018lie\u2019.<\/p>\n

This is after the SpaceX CEO claimed two\u00a0NASA<\/a>\u00a0astronauts, Sunita \u2018Suni\u2019 Williams and Barry \u2018Butch\u2019 Wilmore, had been left in space \u2018for political reasons\u2019.<\/p>\n

Reposting the clip on X, astronaut and former SpaceX pilot Andreas Mogensen criticized the comment, writing: \u201cWhat a lie. And from someone who complains about lack of honesty from the mainstream media.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk then shocked people with his response as he wrote back: \u201cYou are fully r*******. SpaceX could have brought them back several months ago. I OFFERED THIS DIRECTLY to the Biden administration and they refused. Return WAS pushed back for political reasons. Idiot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mogensen replied: \u201cElon, I have long admired you and what you have accomplished, especially at SpaceX and Tesla.<\/p>\n
