Joy Behar\u2019s notoriously interruptive cell phone and her apartment building\u2019s elevator that once tried to kidnap her aren\u2019t the only mean-spirited presences in The View cohost\u2019s life<\/p>\n
Across nearly three decades, Behar \u2014 also a stand-up comedian and playwright \u2014 has endured a revolving door of cohosts, including many she\u2019s sparred with on the air (looking at you, Meghan McCain). On Friday\u2019s live show, the 82-year-old reflected on many of such panelists who\u2019ve been \u201cmean\u201d to her at the Hot Topics table, even if she wasn\u2019t always able to see it in the moment.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t see a toxic [relationship], I can\u2019t see it. I\u2019m an only child. I was treated well as a child. I think everybody likes me,\u201d Behar said during a chat about The White Lotus season 3\u2019s depiction of a toxic group of friends (Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan).<\/p>\n
Behar said she initially wants to \u201ctrust\u201d people around her, though she pointed to one of her friends who had a \u201clousy upbringing\u201d with mean parents, but who\u2019s able to \u201cspot people who are mean\u201d to her because of such a dynamic.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I can\u2019t. I\u2019m like Shirley Temple,\u201d Behar added, turning to her cohosts. \u201cTell them, I don\u2019t remember who\u2019s mean to me \u2014 even at this table!\u201d<\/p>\n
Conservative cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin \u2014 with whom Behar has sometimes clashed with on the air in the past \u2014 observed that \u201cno one at this table has been mean to you,\u201d prompting a quick reply from Behar.<\/p>\n
Not now,\u201d Behar responded, before pointing out that she\u2019s been \u201chere 28 years,\u201d and has experienced many more cohosts in the past. \u201cThat\u2019s true,\u201d Griffin said in response. \u201cActually, many people at this table!\u201d<\/p>\n
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for The View for comment.<\/p>\n
Though Behar didn\u2019t name names, former View cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck recently publicly criticized her ex-colleague following Behar\u2019s observations about Carrie Underwood\u2019s decision to perform at Donald Trump\u2019s second presidential inauguration in January.<\/p>\n
That @TheView @JoyVBehar needs to simmer down off my friend,\u201d Hasselbeck wrote in January on X, later posting a message speculating where she would eventually publicize her expanded thoughts on Behar \u201ccalling Carrie Underwood Un-American.\u201d However, Behar did not use the phrase \u201cun-American\u201d to describe Underwood in her comments about the singer.<\/p>\n
Behar first joined The View alongside Barbara Walters for its inaugural season in 1997, and has remained on the panel ever since, outside of a two-season absence between 2013 and 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
