KYIV \u2014 An agreement that would give the US rights to rare earth minerals in Ukraine believed to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars was almost sealed\u00a0Friday night<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 but had not been finalized by the time President Trump\u2019s special envoy\u00a0concluded his three-day visit\u00a0<\/a>to the war-torn country, sources familiar with negotiations confirmed to The Post.<\/p>\n

Retired Gen. Keith Kellogg, 80, believed to be one of the few\u00a0Trump administration officials still sympathetic<\/a>\u00a0to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, began his two-day trip back to the US without confirming a deal that the White House has pushed hard for \u2014 but which\u00a0high-level officials in Zelensky\u2019s government view as a shakedown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny deal that can be made has to be mutually beneficial,\u201d a spokesperson for the Ukrainian president\u2019s office insisted to The Post.<\/p>\n

At the White House, however, Trump was confident that an understanding would be reached.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re signing an agreement, hopefully in the next fairly short period of time, that will assure us that we\u2019ll get $400 or $500 billion back,\u201d the president said, adding erroneously that \u201cwe\u2019re in there for $300 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n
