New York University has issued an official statement this week after College Republicans president Kaya Walker resigned following a series of controversial remarks she made about Barron Trump.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old son of\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0president\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0and wife\u00a0Melania<\/a>\u00a0has attended the institution since May 2024, following his graduation from Florida’s Oxbridge Academy, and still studies business at NYU’s Stern School of Business.<\/p>\n

Last week (12 Feb), however,\u00a0Barron<\/a>\u00a0was the victim of a number of ‘inappropriate’ comments made by the educational facility’s College Republicans president about his mannerisms on campus.<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with Vanity Fair, Walker described the student – who is the youngest of the 78-year-old Republican president’s five children – as ‘sort of like an oddity on campus’.<\/p>\n

She added that Barron ‘goes to class, he goes home’.<\/p>\n

Walker also told the publication that one of her professors had joked recently that the teenager ‘doesn’t belong here’, referencing the fact that NYU is widely considered a\u00a0left-leaning<\/a>\u00a0institution.<\/p>\n

The outlet also spoke with one of Barron’s classmates, who reported recounted an anecdote about the president’s son asking to play basketball with him.<\/p>\n

The student recalled that Barron seemed interested, but that he’d gotten the sense at the time that ‘he wasn\u2019t really allowed to do stuff’, being under the watchful eye of Secret Service officers.<\/p>\n

After facing backlash for her comments, it was\u00a0announced last week that Walker had left her position<\/a>\u00a0at NYU.<\/p>\n

A statement from the College Republicans of America (CRA) has since issued a statement on her resignation.<\/p>\n

“In light of recent reports concerning the President of our New York University (NYU) chapter, College Republicans of\u00a0America<\/a>\u00a0(CRA) wishes to address the situation directly,” the message began.<\/p>\n

“We have been made aware of a statement made by the NYU chapter President that does not align with the values and principles upheld by our organisation.”<\/p>\n

Accusing Vanity Fair of ‘unfairly framing what was said’, the CRA noted: “Upon review, we still found it to be inappropriate. The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night.”<\/p>\n

The statement, posted to X on Monday (17 February), went on to state: “CRA broke with 100 years of precedent when we endorsed President\u00a0Trump<\/a>, being the first national College Republican organisation to endorse a candidate before the beginning of the primary season.<\/p>\n

“CRA proceeded to make more than one million voter contacts throughout the primary and general elections, sending hundreds of our students wherever the Trump campaign needed them.<\/p>\n
