People have been left in shock over Elon Musk’s extreme reaction to Tom Hanks’ controversial\u00a0Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u00a0sketch.<\/p>\n

The actor, 68, was one of many famous faces appearing at the\u00a0SNL50: The Anniversary Special<\/em><\/a>, which took place on Sunday evening (16 February) to mark 50 years of\u00a0Saturday Night Live<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The original sketch had appeared in a 2016 episode of\u00a0Black Jeopardy<\/em><\/a>\u00a0where Hanks played\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0supporter, Doug.<\/p>\n

In the scene, Doug wears a MAGA baseball cap and refuses to shake hands with Darnell Hayes, played by Kenan Thompson.<\/p>\n

The skit didn’t go down well with\u00a0Republican viewers<\/a>, with many taking to X to criticise Hanks over the performance.<\/p>\n

One person wrote on X: “Tom Hanks and\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0thought it would be hilarious for him to put on a MAGA hat and act out a stereotype of half the country in a desperate attempt to cope with Democrats crushing defeat in November. Not surprising no one watches\u00a0SNL\u00a0<\/em>or NBC anymore.”<\/p>\n

And another added: “After watching Tom Hanks do a sad mockery of me & every other Trump supporter on\u00a0SNL<\/em>‘s 50th anniversary show I know I’ll never watch another of his performances or movies.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile a third wrote: \u201cTom Hanks went on SNL\u00a0<\/em>dressed like a slob mocking millions of\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0supporters…. Keep it up libs. You’ll never win another election again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk<\/a>\u00a0– who is head of Trump’s newly created Department for Government Efficiency – had a pretty extreme reaction to the sketch himself, re-tweeting an offensive comment shared by a Republican social media user on X.<\/p>\n

The tweet read: “Hey pedo @tomhanks.<\/p>\n

“Not ALL #MAGA hat wearing patriots are white.<\/p>\n

“In fact, most racism comes from the elite Democrats, you a** hole.”<\/p>\n

Re-tweeting the comment, Musk shared two fire emojis alongside the post.<\/p>\n

People were horrified that Musk re-tweeted the comments, with one person writing: “Why would someone post that about Tom Hanks and then why would anyone waste their time to repost something like that without any validity to the claim?”<\/p>\n

While another said: “Prove it, Elon.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one called it ‘school yard level’.<\/p>\n

Hanks’ sketch wasn’t the only viral moment the actor encountered over the weekend, with another scene seeing him and wife Rita Wilson, also 68, storming suddenly off the set.<\/p>\n

In the minutes prior, presenter Jimmy Fallon addressed the crowd before cracking a joke that the three-hour long show would\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>see any accolades presented.<\/p>\n

“Apparently, there\u2019s been some confusion,” Fallon jibed.<\/p>\n

“This is just a concert. We\u2019re not giving out any awards tonight. So I just want to make sure that everyone knows that.”<\/p>\n

It was then that father-of-four Hanks could be seen taking his other-half’s hand in the audience, before the pair climb out of the seats and head towards the studio’s backdoor.<\/p>\n

Actress and singer Wilson then wagged her finger at the camera as the two exited the venue, with Fallon, 50, questioning: “Tom? Rita?”<\/p>\n
