Julianne Moore has spoken out about the ‘great shock’ it caused her to learn her children’s book\u00a0Freckleface Strawberry<\/em>\u00a0has been ‘banned’ by the Trump Administration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alongside starring in\u00a0hits<\/a>\u00a0such as\u00a0Still Alice\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The Room Next Door,\u00a0<\/em>Academy Award-winning actor Moore has also authored a series of\u00a0books<\/a>, beginning with 2007 release\u00a0Freckleface Strawberry.<\/em><\/p>\n

The book series was inspired by Moore’s own nickname she was dubbed at the age of seven because she ‘was covered in freckles and had very red hair’.<\/p>\n

“She hoped that they would go away when she grew up, but they didn’t,” the website for the series\u00a0states<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The premise for the series is about a young girl who’s ‘learning to love the skin she’s in’ because ‘the things that make you different also make you YOU’.<\/p>\n

However, despite the positivity of the series’ message, Moore has since taken to her\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0to reveal her first book – titled simply\u00a0Freckleface Strawberry –\u00a0<\/em>has ‘been banned by the\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0Administration from schools run by the Department of Defense’.<\/p>\n

Moore took to Instagram yesterday (February 16) writing: “Freckleface Strawberry is a semi-autobiographical story about a seven year old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them when she realizes that she is different ‘just like everybody else’.<\/p>\n

“It is a book I wrote for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community.<\/p>\n

“I am particularly stunned because I am a proud graduate of Frankfurt American High School a #DOD school that once operated in Frankfurt,\u00a0Germany<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I grew up with a father who is a Vietnam veteran and spent his career in the #USArmy. I could not be prouder of him and his service to our country. It is galling for me to realize that kids like me, growing up with a parent in the service and attending a @dodea_edu school will not have access to a book written by someone whose life experience is so similar to their own.<\/p>\n

“And I can\u2019t help but wonder what is so controversial about this picture book that cause it to be banned by the US\u00a0Government<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I am truly saddened and never thought I would see this in a country where freedom of speech and expression is a constitutional right. Thank you to @penamerica for bringing this to my attention. #FAHS #frecklefacestrawberry @uyenloseordraw @thebookgrp.”<\/p>\n
