Jon Batiste put an Orleanian twist on the national anthem to kick off\u00a0Super Bowl 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The seven-time Grammy winner sang \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d on the field at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Batiste, a Louisiana native, wore an all-black black suit and diamond jewelry for the patriotic moment in front of a sea of fans supporting the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>He sang a jazzy rendition of the anthem while playing a colorful piano.<\/p>\n

Batiste told Page Six exclusively last month that he was \u201cdefinitely\u201d\u00a0planning on leaning into his roots<\/a>\u00a0and is \u201calways going to represent\u201d his home state. He also reflected on performing the tune during a \u201cvery interesting\u201d time in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always a good thing to represent the best of who we are, and it\u2019s important to have songs and symbols that represent that,\u201d he told us. \u201cBut when you get to a point where there\u2019s conflict in that regard, it\u2019s an interesting place for an artist to stand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The composer \u2014 who recently\u00a0opened his first jazz club<\/a>\u00a0in the Bahamas \u2014 previously shared how thrilled he was to be a part of the major football event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to figure out an arrangement that lasts the test of time, and I look forward to sharing it,\u201d he\u00a0told \u201cEntertainment Tonight\u201d\u00a0<\/a>in January.<\/p>\n

The NFL announced in November 2024 that the \u201cFreedom\u201d artist, 38, would be\u00a0singing the national anthem<\/a>\u00a0as a way of honoring Louisiana\u2019s local music scene.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>\u201cWe\u2019re honored to work with this year\u2019s pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state,\u201d the league\u2019s head of music, Seth Dudowsky,\u00a0said in a statement at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Super Bowl is a rare moment to unite fans around the world, and this year\u2019s performers will bring the energy, soul and vibrant sounds of the region to a global stage as we kickoff Super Bowl LIX with a celebration to remember,\u201d Dudowsky added.<\/p>\n

Grammy winners Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle, both of whom also hail from Louisiana,\u00a0performed \u201cAmerica the Beautiful\u201d together<\/a>, while NOLA-born artist Ledisi\u00a0sang \u201cLift Every Voice and Sing.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>This year\u2019s championship game has a star-studded line-up, with Kendrick Lamar\u00a0headlining the Roc Nation-produced Apple Music halftime show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The decision to recruit the \u201cSwimming Pools\u201d rapper, 37, for the coveted gig was somewhat controversial considering critics believed New Orleanian Lil Wayne would be a better choice to honor the Big Easy.<\/p>\n
