\nFormer US President Joe Biden will no longer have access to intelligence material or be able to attend briefings<\/p>\n
Donald Trump has argued why Joe Biden \u2018could not be trusted with sensitive information\u2019 after revoking his security clearance and prohibiting him from attending intelligence briefings.<\/p>\n
Despite no longer serving as leaders of the United States, all former presidents are typically invited to classified intelligence briefings as a courtesy.<\/p>\n
However, earlier this week, 47th President of the US Donald Trump revealed former President Joe Biden\u2019s security clearance allowing him to attend such meetings would be revoked.<\/p>\n
In a post shared to Truth Social on February 7, Trump wrote there\u2019s \u2018no need\u2019 for Biden to \u2018continue receiving access to classified information\u2019 and so the government would \u2018immediately\u2019 be \u2018revoking Biden\u2019s security clearances, and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings\u2019.<\/p>\n
The reason? Well, Trump claimed Biden \u2018set this precedent in 2021\u2019 when he \u2018instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents\u2019.<\/p>\n
And he didn\u2019t stop there either, going on to comment on why Biden apparently cannot \u2018be trusted\u2019 with such information anyway.<\/p>\n
The \u2018poor memory\u2019 comment is from a report by special counsel Robert Hur from February last year which saw Biden described as a \u2018well meaning, elderly man\u2019 with a \u2018poor memory,\u2019 drawing on an alleged incident which saw Biden struggle to remember the year his son Beau passed away from cancer, BBC reports.<\/p>\n
At the time, Biden refuted the claims, telling reporters: \u201cI\u2019m well-meaning, and I\u2019m an elderly man, and I know what the hell I\u2019m doing.\u201d And a transcript later suggested Biden was not directly asked when his son had passed.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just Biden who\u2019s had his security clearance revoked either, with Trump signing an executive order \u2018holding former government officials accountable for election interference and improper disclosure of sensitive government information\u2019.<\/p>\n
The order \u2018directs the revocation of any active or current security clearances held by: (i) the former intelligence officials who engaged in misleading and inappropriate political coordination with the 2020 Biden presidential campaign; and John R. Bolton\u2019.<\/p>\n
Former top US military commander Mark Milley \u2013 who has been vocal in his criticism of Trump \u2013 and former chief medical advisor to the president, Anthony Fauci, have had their security clearance revoked alongside Trump\u2019s own former National Security Advisor, John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
