Mexico\u2019s President Claudia Sheinbaum claimed Monday that she reached a deal with President Trump to halt the imposition of 25% tariffs for one month in exchange for concessions on the border.<\/p>\n

Sheinbaum said Mexico agreed to reinforce the US-Mexico border with 10,000 personnel from Mexico\u2019s national guard to help crack down on fentanyl dissemination into the US. Sheinbaum and Trump held a call Monday morning.<\/p>\n

The US will then work with Mexico to prevent the trafficking of weapons into America\u2019s southern neighbor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a good conversation with President Trump with great respect for our relationship and sovereignty; we reached a series of agreements,\u201d Sheinbaum said in a statement, per a translation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur teams will begin working today on two fronts: security and trade,\u201d she added. \u201cThey are pausing tariffs for one month from now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump had ordered a 25% across-the-board tariff on Mexico after accusing the southern neighbor of failing to meet his demands of addressing the fentanyl and illegal immigration crises.<\/p>\n
