Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is facing a challenging time off the field as his family navigates personal difficulties.<\/p>\n

Mahomes\u2019 mother, Randi Mahomes, announced Friday that her father – Patrick\u2019s grandfather – is in hospice care.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad is in a hospice and I\u2019m lost for words,\u201d Randi shared on her Instagram Story, along with a photo of the two together.<\/p>\n

She had previously mentioned her father\u2019s declining health last fall but did not reveal any specific diagnosis.<\/p>\n

The heartbreaking news comes just two days before Mahomes and the Chiefs are set to host the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Balancing Family and Football<\/h3>\n

While Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, have not publicly addressed the situation, the couple is already juggling life as a family of five.<\/p>\n

They recently welcomed their third child, a daughter named Golden Raye, on January 12, during the Chiefs\u2019 bye week. Golden joins siblings Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick \u201cBronze\u201d Lavon, 2.<\/p>\n

As the Chiefs prepare for their shot at a historic Super Bowl \u201cthree-peat\u201d \u2014 a feat no NFL team has ever accomplished \u2014 Mahomes has remained focus. The star quarterback participated in an outdoor practice session in Kansas City on Friday, just days after leading the Chiefs to a 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans in the divisional round.<\/p>\n

The win coincided with Randi Mahomes\u2019 49th birthday, which she celebrated with a family photo featuring Patrick, Brittany, and his brother Jackson. \u201cWinning on and off the field! I am so proud of you, son,\u201d she captioned the post. \u201cGrateful for the moments with family that mean the most.\u201d<\/p>\n

Facing a Tough Opponent<\/h3>\n

The Chiefs are gearing up to face the Bills, a team they\u2019ve eliminated in three of the last four postseasons. However, Buffalo handed Kansas City their only loss at full strength this season, beating them 30-21 in Week 11.<\/p>\n

Mahomes knows the stakes are high as the Chiefs aim to secure a spot in their third consecutive Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the AFC championship game. You\u2019ve got to put it all on the line in order to win and try to get to the Super Bowl,\u201d Mahomes said, per\u00a0KMBC<\/a>. \u201cThis is a great football team we\u2019re going up against, so I think all of us are going to go out there and give it everything we have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mahomes also acknowledged the unique challenge of competing against players he shares a personal bond with. \u201cWhenever you go up against the best, it brings the best out of you,\u201d he added. \u201cTo go up against someone that you have a friendship with off the field as well… it\u2019s just like a brother or anything else.<\/p>\n

“When you compete, you\u2019re going to compete, but when you\u2019re off the field, you\u2019re going to joke around and have fun, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the Mahomes family navigates the emotional weight of their personal circumstances, Patrick faces the challenging task of remaining focused on leading his team to victory.
