When I was a kid, Yankees rain delays and rainouts weren\u2019t a total loss because Ch. 11 would plug in old \u2014 old even then for kids who grew up in black and white \u2014 episodes of 1950s \u201cAbbott and Costello.\u201d Anyone recall \u201cMike the Cop\u201d?<\/p>\n

After years of watching \u2014 or trying to watch \u2014 CBS\u2019 NFL pregame show, I\u2019ve concluded that the laptops, flipped open to be utilized by the many come-and-go panelists, provide CBS and its on-air crew just two things:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The opportunity to be paid to exhibit the computers\u2019 corporate logo on the side that faces the TV cameras and a national audience.<\/li>\n
  2. The opportunity for the panelists to play solitaire \u2014 place the jack under the queen \u2014 while on the air.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After all, nothing pertinent, nothing worth knowing or hearing could be on their screens, or the show, same as Fox\u2019s NFL pregame show, wouldn\u2019t be known as a colossal waste of time, effort and money as exacerbated when they moved from half-hour programs to full hours in order to further emphasize their worthlessness and\/or computer logos.<\/p>\n
