There\u2019s a lot bundled together to make\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>\u00a0quarterback\u00a0Patrick Mahomes<\/a>\u00a0the great football player that he is. But former NFL QB Peyton Manning believes there\u2019s one trait that makes Mahomes special.<\/p>\n

Manning told PEOPLE that Mahomes\u2019s \u201ccalmness\u201d regardless of game situation is what separates him from other NFL quarterbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just as calm in the fourth quarter when losing in the Super Bowl as he is in the preseason, right?,\u201d Manning said in the\u00a0article published on July 10<\/a>. \u201cAnd when you\u2019re calm in those moments, it sure does serve you well and we\u2019ve just seen it over and over again. We can go on about all the different reasons but I think his calmness in the crucial moments are really what makes him special.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twitter\/X Reacts to Patrick Mahomes\u2019s Winning \u2018Best NFL Player\u2019 at ESPYs<\/h2>\n

On July 10 \u2014 one day before the ESPYS \u2014\u00a0ESPN announced via \u201cNFL Live\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that Mahomes is the recipient of the 2024 \u201cBest NFL Player\u201d award.<\/p>\n

Users on X, formerly Twitter, reacted to Mahomes winning the award for a second-straight season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a DOLPHIN UNTIL I DIE, but credit is given where credit is earned! You have definitely done that! Congrats,\u00a0<\/span>@PatrickMahomes<\/span>, you\u2019re on your way to replacing Brady!\u00a0<\/span>#MahomesWillRetireTheGoat,\u201d\u00a0one user wrote<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNever a doubt. Best player in the league by a landslide. Built on Coors, Whataburger, Prime, Subway and Throne Sport Coffee,\u201d\u00a0another user wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t argue with that. When you win back-to-back Super Bowls, especially after playing two road playoff games for the first time in your career, you deserve that honor,\u201d\u00a0another user wrote<\/a>. \u201cIt sucks for most of the NFL, but Mahomes earned that ESPY with how he played when it truly mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrick Mahomes Nominated for 2 Other ESPYS<\/h2>\n

Mahomes was also nominated for \u201cBest Athlete, Men\u2019s Sports\u201d and the Chiefs were nominated for \u201cBest Team\u201d.<\/p>\n

Other athletes who were nominated for \u201cBest Athlete, Men\u2019s Sports\u201d were Shohei Ohtani (MLB), Scottie Scheffler (PGA), and Connor McDavid (NHL). The other nominated athletes for \u201cBest NFL Player\u201d were\u00a0Myles Garrett<\/a>\u00a0(Cleveland Browns<\/a>),\u00a0Lamar Jackson<\/a>\u00a0(Baltimore Ravens<\/a>), and\u00a0Christian McCaffrey<\/a>\u00a0(San Francisco 49ers<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Other teams that were nominated for \u201cBest Team\u201d are the South Carolina Gamecocks (NCAA women\u2019s basketball), Michigan Wolverines (NCAA football), Las Vegas Aces (WNBA), University of Connecticut Huskies (NCAA Men\u2019s basketball), Oklahoma Sooners (NCAA softball),\u00a0Boston Celtics<\/a>\u00a0(NBA), Florida Panthers (NHL), and Texas Rangers (MLB).<\/p>\n

The ESPYs, which will be hosted by Serena Williams, will broadcast live on Thursday, July 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC.<\/p>\n

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Eyeing Three-Peat<\/h2>\n

Despite all of the distractions that the NFL offseason can bring, Mahomes and the Chiefs have their eyes set on NFL history this upcoming season as they seek to become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media on April 15, Mahomes detailed how the team is remaining focused and not getting overwhelmed by the monumental task at hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was something that was discussed more after we won the second one,\u201d\u00a0Mahomes said of chatter amongst teammates<\/a>\u00a0regarding a potential three-peat. \u201cNow that we\u2019re kind of back and starting back from the beginning, that\u2019s how you have to start, you have to start from the beginning, you have to go back to your fundamentals.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be going over fronts and stuff today, stuff that might get a little tedious and stuff that I need to know,\u201d Mahomes continued. \u201cThe coaches will get a laugh out of it because they know that it kind of irritates me sometimes. That\u2019s how it is, you have to go back to the beginning, go back to your elementary school and learn from the beginning and I think that\u2019s something that has kind of gotten us to where we\u2019re at is that you can\u2019t be satisfied at where we\u2019re at, you have to learn and pick up one little different thing that you didn\u2019t know the year before.
