An ABC News reporter has opened up about the heartbreak after her \u201cdream home\u201d was reduced to rubble following the horrific Los Angeles fires ravaging the city.<\/p>\n

LA-based correspondent Zohreen Shah spent just one night in the \u201cmagical\u201d new abode with her husband before the devastating Palisades Fire charred every inch of the picturesque pad.<\/p>\n

\u201cI lost my home in the fires. It\u2019s a total loss,\u201d Shah\u00a0wrote on Instagram<\/a>\u00a0alongside images of the damage as well as snaps of the home in better times.<\/p>\n

Shah and her husband, Rishi, closed on the property less than a month ago and were in the process of moving in when the fires hit last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver and over, I told Rishi I couldn\u2019t believe this sanctuary was ours. We spent one night there. Just one,\u201d she wrote, adding that they took six years to find the \u201cperfect\u201d property.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was magical. We dreamed of retiring in that same home. Just five minutes from PCH, yet it felt like another planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shah said the purchase was made even more special because her parents had never owned a home.<\/p>\n

Shah also revealed the intimate access to California\u2019s wildlife \u2014 just steps away from her backyard.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeer walked up to the home, the birds sounded like a tropical island, and the ocean view was the\u00a0California\u00a0dream,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had peach, nectarine, lemon, and avocado trees \u2014 and a small enclosure for lettuce and strawberries, safe from wildlife.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it was more than all that. It was the culmination of Rishi\u2019s six-year search for the perfect coastal home. He found it in November and we closed on Xmas Eve,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cook most meals at home, I haven\u2019t had kids yet, and I don\u2019t travel for fun. Because of this, over years, I saved enough for 20% of our down payment,\u201d she went on. \u201cI was so proud. And then \u2014 just like that \u2014 after years of working and saving, it was gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to be honest. As much as I\u2019m determined to rebuild with Rishi, we are also so damn sad. I know we are very lucky \u2014 we are safe,\u201d she wrote, adding that she\u2019s still \u201cscared\u201d that the fires aren\u2019t completely contained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m determined to find answers. This journey is personal. I hope when people see me on TV or\u00a0TikTok, they know they\u2019re watching someone who saw her dream home turn to rubble \u2014 and is fighting to build it back again,\u201d she concluded her post.<\/p>\n
