President Biden slammed Meta on Friday for\u00a0ending its third-party fact-checking program<\/a>, arguing that the change goes against American values and is \u201cshameful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole idea of walking away from facts checking [sic] as well as not reporting anything having to do with, uh, um, discrimination regarding TPS I find to be just contrary to American justice,\u201d Biden said in response to a reporter\u2019s question about Meta\u2019s recent policy shift.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what the 82-year-old president was referring to when he suggested Meta was not reporting discrimination \u201cregarding TPS,\u201d an acronym for the\u00a0Temporary Protected Status program<\/a>\u00a0offered to foreign nationals from certain countries.<\/p>\n

The White House did not immediately respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cTelling the truth matters,\u201d Biden continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what that\u2019s all about,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s just completely contrary to everything America\u2019s about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week,\u00a0Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg<\/a>\u00a0announced that his company will replace third-party fact-checking with a community-driven model similar to rival platform X\u2019s Community Notes.<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg said the change, which will affect Facebook, Instagram and Threads, is aimed at \u201crestoring free expression\u201d and \u201creducing mistakes\u201d his company has made trying to fact-check posts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to tell the truth. We haven\u2019t always done it as a nation but we want to tell the truth,\u201d Biden continued during the rare Q&A session.<\/p>\n

The president fumed that \u201ca billionaire can buy something and say, \u2018By the way, from this point on, we\u2019re not going to, we\u2019re not going to fact check anything.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg, 40, did not buy Meta, he originally founded the company as Facebook in 2004.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have millions of people reading, going online, reading this stuff, it is \u2014 anyway, I think it\u2019s, I think it\u2019s really shameful,\u201d Biden concluded.<\/p>\n

Meta did not immediately respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

In an interview released just hours before the president\u2019s remarks,\u00a0Zuckerberg slammed the Biden administration<\/a>\u00a0on the \u201cJoe Rogan Experience\u201d podcast for pushing Meta to censor content related to COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n

The Meta boss claimed Biden officials phoned executives at the company to \u201cscream\u201d and \u201ccurse\u201d at them while demanding that they remove any negative posts about the coronavirus vaccine on Facebook.<\/p>\n
