Jamie Lee Curtis\u00a0is facing backlash after\u00a0comparing fire-ravaged Los Angeles neighborhoods\u00a0<\/a>to war-torn countries in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately, Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened,\u201d the actress, 66, said during a\u00a0Q&A for \u201cThe Last Showgirl\u201d<\/a>\u00a0posted to X.<\/p>\n

Fans quickly flocked to the comments section to question Curtis\u2019 comparison.<\/p>\n

One user posted, \u201cComparing wildfires to war zones feels off, it minimizes the devastation unique to each.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of unsettling, words matter, especially from someone with her platform,\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t compare a natural disaster to a genocide!\u201d a third follower clapped back, while another unhappy fan chimed in: \u201cTwo things that have nothing to do with each other\u2026 pack it up, great grandma\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Some followers were more forgiving towards Curtis, with one explaining, \u201cI respect Jamie Lee Curtis, but that comparison doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days before, the \u201cFreaky Friday\u201d star\u00a0fought back tears<\/a>\u00a0as she spoke about the\u00a0\u201ccatastrophe\u201d of the Palisades Fire<\/a>, the coastal neighborhood where she has lived for decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning. I flew here last night. I was on the plane and started getting texts. It\u2019s f\u2013king gnarly, you guys,\u201d Curtis told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on his show.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a catastrophe in Southern California. Obviously there have been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where I live. Everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curtis said she had \u201cmany, many, many\u201d friends who have lost their homes in the devastation of the fires.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really awful situation,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Curtis, who returned to California on Thursday to be with her family and friends, encouraged viewers to support disaster relief efforts if they are able, including the Red Cross.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo anything you can, anything in your community to help people,\u201d she stated.\u00a0\u201cWhether you need it or not now, you will need it. Give blood, donate, whatever you can do. Animal shelters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curtis has since\u00a0said she and her family are pledging $1 million to start a \u201cfund of support\u201d for those affected by the blazes.<\/p>\n

The actor\u00a0made her\u00a0pledge on Instagram Thursday<\/a>, writing that she had been in touch with state and city leaders about how the money might be distributed \u201cfor the most impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s believed Curtis\u2019 home is still standing.<\/p>\n

Firefighters have been working around the clock to put out at least six fires in Los Angeles this week \u2014\u00a0the largest being\u00a0the Palisades and Eaton fires<\/a>\u00a0that have now collectively scorched over 35,000 acres and counting.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>Earlier this week, an unidentified person was taken into custody\u00a0by the Los Angeles Police Department for \u201cpossible arson\u201d connected with\u00a0the Kenneth Fire<\/a>. Officials later revealed that the individual\u00a0would not be charged with arson<\/a>\u00a0due to lack of probable cause.<\/p>\n
