Two LA-based actresses claimed embattled Mayor Karen Bass is only facing backlash because of her race \u2014 instead of forcing drastic cuts to the fire department and being out of the US when\u00a0the historic deadly wildfires<\/a>\u00a0started.<\/p>\n

\u201cAct Your Age\u201d co-stars Yvette Nicole Brown and Kym Whitley defended Bass as calls for\u00a0her removal from office<\/a>\u00a0skyrocketed Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s got a spine of steel, and she\u2019s been a black woman in America for a really long time,\u201d Brown\u00a0told TMZ<\/a>. \u201cNone of this is new.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown, 53, has lived in the City of Angels for nearly three decades but couldn\u2019t recall another mayor facing the same scrutiny as Bass, suggesting the criticism stemmed from racism.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cWe have fires every year, and I don\u2019t remember in the almost 30 years that I\u2019ve lived in LA, I\u2019ve never seen everybody react like this to the mayor and blame one person for a natural disaster,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow what\u2019s different this time?\u201d she questioned.<\/p>\n

The enraged \u201cCommunity\u201d alum says she was standing up for Bass because she was \u201ctired\u201d of watching the 71-year-old mayor be the lone scapegoat for the deadly blazes despite the fires decimating several cities in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is also not the mayor of every municipality in California, there are people mad because she didn\u2019t fix the fires in Malibu,\u201d Brown said. \u201cShe\u2019s not the mayor of Malibu. What is she supposed to do in a city she\u2019s not the mayor of?\u201d<\/p>\n

Whitley was forced to evacuate her Tarzana home with her son when the fire threatened her neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The actresses insisted Bass was heartbroken to watch a city \u201cshe loves\u201d get destroyed by the fires, and the citizens of the city call her out for the response.<\/p>\n

\u201cStand behind her, support her, because you can see it in her face she stays calm,\u201d Whitley said. \u201cThink about this, she has the city to take care of, she doesn\u2019t have time to hear what these reports are saying.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not the time to blame, it\u2019s time to get some resources, she has reached out far. We have planes coming in from other countries to help us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firefighters from Mexico landed at Los Angeles International Airport Saturday to help battle the fires, a sight welcomed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n

The landing of the crews from south of the border comes a day after\u00a0Bass declined the FDNY\u2019s offer<\/a>\u00a0to send its resources out to the Golden State.<\/p>\n

JetBlue offered to fly New York\u2019s Bravest to the West Coast, but Bass rebuffed the sentiment, The Post reported Friday. Her office later denied the snub.<\/p>\n

Bass has been criticized for her actions since the Palisades Fire broke out in the Pacific Palisades Tuesday morning, while\u00a0she was in West Africa<\/a>\u00a0for the inauguration of the Ghanaian president.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Los Angeles Fire Department\u2019s funding was slashed<\/a>\u00a0after\u00a0Bass awarded gilded contracts to city workers.<\/p>\n

The trouble began early last year after Bass settled contract negotiations with public sector unions. In dozens of agreements, the city\u2019s civilian employees pocketed 20 to 25 percent wage hikes over five years and other goodies that cost the city $4.5 billion over the life of the contracts, according to an analysis by the city\u2019s administrative officer, the\u00a0City Journal reported.<\/a><\/p>\n

Several celebrities have bashed Bass for her handling of the situation.<\/p>\n

Khloe Kardashian took to social media Friday, calling the\u00a0LA leader \u201ca joke\u201d<\/a>\u00a0while defending LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stand by YOU Chief Crowley!!!! You spoke the truth and you had tears in your eyes because I can tell you didn\u2019t even want to say that but it was THE TRUTH!!!!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
