Just hours after their season-ending Week 18 victory over the Buffalo Bills that cost them the #1 overall pick in next spring\u2019s NFL Draft, the\u00a0New England Patriots<\/strong>\u00a0announced that they would be firing head coach\u00a0Jerod Mayo.<\/strong>\u00a0Mayo, a linebacker with the Patriots from 2008 to 2015, was fired after just one season as the team\u2019s head coach.<\/p>\n Speaking about\u00a0Jerod Mayo\u2019s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0firing on Monday,\u00a0Stephen A. Smith<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0made the conversation about race, wondering why the Monday after the final NFL regular season game of the year is called \u201cBlack Monday\u201d and not \u201cWhite Monday.\u201d Mayo wasn\u2019t even fired on Monday \u2014 he was fired on Sunday.<\/p>\n The term \u201cBlack Monday\u201d comes from the 1987 stock market crash, which happened on Monday, October 19, 1987, and is essentially short-hand for a day in which people lose their jobs.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is about Mike Vrabel. That\u2019s who they wanted\u2026 I don\u2019t like this. They call it Black Monday for a reason. This certainly typifies it.
