White told \u201cThis Morning<\/a>\u201d that he has always had a girly side.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been very feminine. I\u2019ve always liked dresses playing with barbies when I was 4 (and) dressing up in my cousin\u2019s dresses. But then when I was 12, that\u2019s when I was like, I want to go to prom in a dress. A suit\u2019s just not for me. I just didn\u2019t feel like that would be expressing myself how I want to and then, thanks to my mom and our lovely friend Kirk, we made it happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Because of his flair for the dramatic, White decided to keep his prom outfit a secret from his friends and teachers, although his mother was sure they knew something was up his sleeve.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the teachers knew he wasn\u2019t going to be in a bog-standard suit,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n And when the student of Archbishop Sancroft High School in Harleston, Norfolk, in the United Kingdom stepped out wearing a fire engine red sequined tuxedo jacket over a full ball gown skirt for prom, his mother wasn\u2019t the only one who got emotional.<\/p>\n At age 12 my son announced he wanted to go to his school\u00a0#prom<\/a>\u00a0in a gown. Four years later we made it happen. I\u2019m so incredibly\u00a0#proud<\/a>\u00a0of him for being true to himself & the reception he got from his whole school was incredible. There are people in the world who still don\u2019t understand, but the feeling of acceptance, you can\u2019t beat that feeling. I\u2019m so happy for him,\u201d the proud mother said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n And when Green posted\u00a0photos<\/a>\u00a0of the fabulous outfit to social media, the two could not believe the responses it received.<\/p>\n When Green posted photos of her son\u2019s prom outfit to Twitter on July 1, 2022, it went viral almost instantly and attracted the attention of local and national\u00a0media<\/a>. It has been retweeted almost 4,000 times, including by \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race<\/a>\u201d star\u00a0Michelle Visage<\/a>. White said he was thrilled by the appreciation from one of his idols, calling it \u201cvery surreal.\u201d<\/p>\n While Green admitted she had reservations about posting the photos, she decided to do it in the end.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t expect it to get the reaction that it did but what\u2019s important to me, whilst I knew there would probably be some negative comments, the message I\u2019ve got is far more important \u2026 that message of acceptance. \u2026 If I told him he couldn\u2019t wear a dress, I would fail as a parent because I\u2019m not letting him be true to himself and it\u2019s so important that he lives an authentic life and I don\u2019t want to hide him away. \u2026 It\u2019s so important because (when) he\u2019s happy, I\u2019m happy,\u201d she told ITV\u2019s \u201cThis Morning<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Green\u2019s message of love and acceptance has been embraced by thousands.<\/p>\n \u201cYaaas!
