Television icon Wendy Williams has reportedly been\u00a0declared<\/a>\u00a0“cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated” as she continues her battle with dementia and aphasia, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.<\/p>\n

Attorneys for her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, revealed the update in a recent filing, describing the 60-year-old TV show host’s cognitive decline as severe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Morrissey has filed a lawsuit against A&E Television Networks and Lifetime Entertainment Services over the release of “Where Is Wendy Williams?”\u2014a docuseries documenting Williams’ withdrawal from public life. She alleges the series exploited Williams’ health challenges for financial gain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although Williams is credited as an executive producer, Morrissey argues she was not mentally capable of providing consent for the project. Williams received $82,000 for the series, which Morrissey has called insufficient given its use of footage showing her struggles with dementia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She has requested that profits from the docuseries be redirected to cover Williams’ ongoing medical care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Williams’\u00a0health struggles<\/a> became public earlier this year when she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, both of which impair her ability to think and communicate. While her representatives have stated she still participates in some decisions about her care, she requires significant daily support.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In January 2022, Williams’ bank, Wells Fargo, raised concerns about her ability to manage her finances and requested the court appoint a guardian. Morrissey now oversees her personal and financial affairs. To protect Williams’ privacy, Morrissey has asked the court to seal sensitive details from the guardianship proceedings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The proposed redactions are very narrowly drawn and do not undermine the public’s ability to understand the core facts and legal arguments at issue in this litigation or to otherwise monitor the federal courts’ execution of their judicial function,” Morrissey’s attorneys\u00a0explained<\/a>\u00a0in court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It is truly a devastating disease, prayers for her and the family.\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe,”<\/i>\u00a0a user\u00a0said<\/a>, while another simply\u00a0wrote<\/a>, “So young too.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Someone else\u00a0commented<\/a>,\u00a0“So Sad \ud83d\ude1e dementia is very terrible I enjoyed watching her shows I Pray for her quick recovery \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe [sic].”<\/i>\u00a0A fourth\u00a0remarked<\/a>,\u00a0“Heartbreaking WENDY WILL FOREVER BE MY favorite talkshow hosts \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\ude4c” [sic].”<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
