Liam Payne\u2019s ex Cheryl Cole said goodbye to the late One Direction member at\u00a0his funeral<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Cole, 41, was seen at the service for Payne at a church in Amersham, England.<\/p>\n

She looked somber and was dressed in all black. She also sported a pair of black sunglasses.<\/p>\n

Cole dated Payne from 2016 to 2018. They welcomed their son Bear in 2017.<\/p>\n

Payne\u2019s parents, Geoff and Karen,\u00a0his girlfriend Kate Cassidy<\/a>, and his\u00a0former One Direction bandmates<\/a>\u00a0Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were also at the service.<\/p>\n

Simon Cowell, who formed One Direction on \u201cThe X Factor,\u201d and James Corden, a longtime friend of the boy band, were photographed paying their respects as well.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 16,\u00a0Payne died suddenly at age 31\u00a0<\/a>after plunging off a hotel balcony in Argentina. After an extensive investigation, authorities in Buenos Aires revealed that Payne\u00a0fractured his skull and died instantly of \u201cvery serious injuries.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Officials do not believe his fall was intentional.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor\u2019s office said Payne had alcohol, cocaine and an unspecified prescription antidepressant in his system. Police arrested three individuals in connection with Payne\u2019s death,\u00a0alleging they provided narcotics<\/a>\u00a0to the singer.<\/p>\n

Two days after Payne\u2019s death, Cole\u00a0spoke out on social media and begged for compassion\u00a0<\/a>as the internet speculated over what led to Payne\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I\u2019d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,\u201d she wrote via Instagram alongside a throwback photo of Payne with a newborn Bear in bed.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the harsh reality of never seeing his father again.<\/p>\n

I am begging you. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them. Please give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Cole and Payne first met in 2008, when he was just 14 and she was 24. That year,\u00a0he auditioned to be on \u201cX Factor\u201d<\/a>\u00a0for the first time, while Cole was one of the judges alongside Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh.<\/p>\n

The \u201cPromise This\u201d singer called Payne \u201creally cute\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n

Payne didn\u2019t succeed the first time on the show, but he returned to audition for \u201cThe X Factor\u201d two years later in 2010 at age 16.<\/p>\n
