Charlamagne tha God gave his remarks during an interview with late night host Bill Maher, as Charlamagne compared Clark\u2019s booming celebrity status to that of\u00a0\u00a0Aces star A\u2019ja Wilson.<\/p>\n

Wilson was just as dominant as Clark during her college career. Wilson was so influential for South Carolina,\u00a0Colonial Life Arena in Columbia has erected a statue outside its doors in her honor.<\/p>\n
Clark should have a statue of her own built in\u00a0\u00a0City one day, but it only states how transcendent Wilson was, especially playing for Dawn Staley amid the dominance of the Gamecocks over the last several years.<\/p>\n
Wilson has continued to be one of basketball\u2019s best as a two-time WNBA MVP. She did not receive an eighth of the attention Clark has. Maher and Charlamagne questioned if had to with Clark\u2019s race.<\/p>\n

\u2018A\u2019ja Wilson was the biggest thing when she came out of South Carolina \u2026 and she didn\u2019t get all of that,\u2019 Charlamagne said.<\/p>\n

\u2018So what do you attribute that to? I mean, you\u2019re saying that\u2019s racism?\u2019 Maher questioned.<\/p>\n
<\/ins><\/ins>\u2018No, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s racist. I\u2019m just saying that I think A\u2019ja Wilson has a point, and I think sometimes when, you know, black women say certain things, we should listen, especially her because I\u2019m not in her shoes,\u2019 Charlamagne responded.<\/p>\n
\u2018But why was Serena Williams such a big star? Because people like that. They didn\u2019t not watch her because she was black, right?\u2019 Maher added.<\/p>\n
Williams was tennis\u2019 biggest star and best player for more than a decade, who was black in a white-dominated sport.<\/p>\n
The inverse is true for Clark, with a majority of the WNBA being black women.<\/p>\n
Williams herself recently\u00a0commented to TIME\u00a0on Clark\u2019s rise to fame, seemingly agreeing with Maher.<\/p>\n
\u2018If people are negative it\u2019s because they can\u2019t do what you do,\u2019 Williams said.<\/p>\n
