Cam Newton\u00a0<\/strong>is no stranger to making bold and controversial statements about the NFL, and his latest take has once again set off a wave of debate.<\/p>\n On his podcast \u201c4th & 1,\u201d the former MVP caused a stir by revealing his current top five quarterbacks \u2013 a list that notably did not include\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes<\/strong>, despite the Chiefs being the league\u2019s only unbeaten team this season.<\/p>\n During a recent episode (timestamp 1:42:04), Newton named his \u201cQB Trust Rankings,\u201d which featured\u00a0Lamar Jackson\u00a0<\/strong>on top followed by\u00a0Jared Goff, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Sam Darnold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The omission of\u00a0Mahomes\u00a0<\/strong>quickly raised eyebrows, with many questioning how the quarterback of the league\u2019s top team could be left off the list.<\/p>\n Newton<\/strong>, however, stood by his picks, suggesting that his criteria for \u201ctrust\u201d went beyond just winning games.<\/p>\n According to him,\u00a0Mahomes<\/strong>, while incredibly skilled, didn\u2019t fit his current top five for clutch consistency.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not playing up to the caliber that we expect [him] to play.<\/p>\n Even sitting at 6-0, thay have found ways not to lose.<\/p>\n And teams have found ways to lose those games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mahomes\u00a0<\/strong>has had a challenging start to the season, with more interceptions (eight) than touchdowns (six) through six games.<\/p>\n <\/ins><\/div>\n He ranks 16th in passing yards (1,389) and 9th in QBR (61.2), completing 67.9 percent of his passes.<\/p>\n After the\u00a0Chiefs<\/strong>\u2018 recent win over the\u00a0San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes\u00a0<\/strong>acknowledged his struggles but emphasized that the team\u2019s victories are the top priority.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re winning games against good teams by a good amount of points and that\u2019s not easy for the NFL,\u201d Mahomes noted.<\/p>\n <\/ins><\/div>\n \u201cBut I just don\u2019t think it\u2019s normal for what you\u2019ve seen from us because there\u2019s not a lot of passing touchdowns.<\/p>\n There\u2019s been a lot of turnovers, especially by me.<\/p>\n <\/ins><\/div>\n So, I think it\u2019s just showing the versatility of our team.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not just about me, it\u2019s not just about the stats and the light show and stuff like that.<\/p>\n It\u2019s about playing team football.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Cam Newton dismisses Patrick Mahomes and explains why there are 5 quarterbacks better than him.
