The expected snub of Caitlin Clark from the U.S. Olympic women\u2019s basketball roster for the summer games is a \u201cmissed opportunity,\u201d Dan Dakich, host of OutKick\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t @ Me,\u201d said Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey could have had more eyeballs on women\u2019s basketball, which would have equated to going back to your season and finishing up even stronger, but now it\u2019s just same old, same old. No one\u2019s going to pay attention, and that\u2019s a missed opportunity, and a really dumb missed opportunity,\u201d he told co-host Will Cain on \u201cFox & Friends Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comments came on the heels of a report from The Athletic saying the Indiana Fever star would be left off the final roster for the 2024 Paris summer games.<\/p>\n

After being named to the national team\u2019s 14-person roster for training camp in Cleveland, Ohio, in early April, she was unable to attend USA Basketball\u2019s training camp because she was focused on playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA tournament.<\/p>\n

USA Basketball has yet to formally confirm the roster for this year\u2019s Olympic team, however.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0some reports speculate\u00a0the decision stems from Clark\u2019s rookie status, others like Dakich struggle to make sense of the move to leave her off the roster.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no basketball player that\u2019s a bigger draw right now in the world \u2014 in the world, I would argue \u2014 than Caitlin Clark,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be honest, most people didn\u2019t even know they had women\u2019s basketball in the Summer Olympics. Now you have a chance to do this, and you don\u2019t take it\u2026 \u201c<\/p>\n

Clark has been credited with bringing attention to the WNBA amid the league\u2019s long-term struggle with viewership.<\/p>\n

The Washington Mystics, for instance, played against Clark\u2019s team before a crowd of 20,333 at Capital One Arena on Friday, the largest attendance for a WNBA game since 2007, according to AP, which cited data from Across the Timeline.<\/p>\n

The decision amassed criticism from others as well.<\/p>\n

Former U.S. men\u2019s soccer star Alexi Lalas, who recently\u00a0spoke with Fox News Digital\u00a0about Clark, weighed in, saying, \u201cI don\u2019t know enough about USA women\u2019s Olympic basketball to know if Caitlin Clark\u2019s omission is a snub. I do know that, right now, she would be the only reason I would remotely care about USA women\u2019s Olympic basketball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, sounded off in a post on X, formerly Twitter: \u201cLeaving Caitlin Clark off the women\u2019s Olympic team is the dumbest s\u2014 I\u2019ve ever heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

OutKick contributor and \u201cGaines for Girls\u201d host Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, wrote: \u201cCaitlin Clark should be on the Women\u2019s US Olympic Basketball team. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s the tweet.\u201d<\/p>\n
