When writing music,\u00a0Matty Healy<\/a>\u00a0would rather not touch on his personal life.<\/p>\n During an appearance on Joshua Citarella\u2019s\u00a0Doomscroll<\/em><\/a>\u00a0podcast on Tuesday, Oct. 22, The 1975 frontman revealed his thoughts on writing songs about previous relationships.<\/p>\n “Last year I became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons. The only reason that I was interested in is kind of like, what I was doing,” Healy, 35, who dated\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a>\u00a0for a few months in 2023, said.<\/p>\n “So I think that a lot of artists, they become very interested in their lore, or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about, and they want to address that,” he continued. “And fair enough, do you know what I mean?”<\/p>\n On The 1975’s first record, Healy was more open to writing about heartbreak and “all these stories about relationships” \u2014 but he doesn’t feel the need to do that anymore.<\/p>\n “I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about, I don\u2019t know, all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons or whatever it may be that I\u2019ve kind of become known for, just because I was famous,” he said.<\/p>\n “I think that that\u2019s an obvious thing to draw from. And I\u2019m just not interested in it. And I think like, the maintenance of the status quo is something that I always fight against,” he continued. “So the idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is gonna be like two years old, I see people doing that as well, and it\u2019s not interesting.”<\/p>\n While Healy is choosing to keep his relationships out of his song lyrics, Swift, 34, detailed their\u00a0short-lived romance<\/a>\u00a0on her latest studio album\u00a0The Tortured Poets Department<\/em>. The singer-songwriter seemingly sings about him on songs including “Guilty as Sin?,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and “loml.”<\/p>\n On “loml,” Swift seemingly revealed their relationship was not meant to last as she sang about rekindling an old flame, only to see the romance crash and burn.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was legendary \/ It was momentary \/ It was unnecessary \/ Should\u2019ve let it stay buried,\u201d she sings. \u201cOh what a valiant roar \/ What a bland goodbye \/ The coward claimed he was a lion \/ I\u2019m combing through the braids of lies \/ \u2018I\u2019ll never leave\u2019 \/ \u2018Nevermind.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The 1975 released their fifth album,\u00a0Being Funny in a Foreign Language<\/em>, in 2022. Most recently, they collaborated with\u00a0Charlie xcx<\/a>\u00a0on “I Might Say Something Stupid,” which was featured on her\u00a0Brat<\/em>\u00a0remix album.<\/p>\n Since his split from Swift, Healy has moved on with model\u00a0Gabbriette Bechtel<\/a>. After going public with their romance\u00a0in September 2023, the couple\u00a0announced their engagement<\/a>\u00a0in June.
