For a lot of players, that means moving on to their offseason jobs. Yes, WNBA players typically have second jobs in the offseason, because the majority of players \u2014 the ones who aren\u2019t stars \u2014 need the money.<\/p>\n<p>Superstar rookie\u00a0Angel Reese\u00a0can count herself lucky. Her celebrity status has led to multiple high profile endorsements, which means she doesn\u2019t have to play overseas in the offseason if she doesn\u2019t want to. During a recent\u00a0IG Live session, she commented on the disappointing pay WNBA players receive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHating pays my bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don\u2019t pay my bills at all. I don\u2019t even think that pays one of my bills,\u201d she said. \u201cLiterally, I\u2019m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at [in Chicago]. I\u2019m gonna do the math real quick. This doesn\u2019t include the $2,575 bonus for being an All-Star, or the $1,500 bonus for being recognized on the\u00a02024 WNBA All-Rookie Team. Teams also pay for housing during the season, or offer a monthly stipend if players live somewhere else. However, anyone who\u2019s ever watched a Chicago-based episode of \u201cHouse Hunters\u201d can tell you that it\u2019s an expensive city to live in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYo, I\u2019m living beyond my means!\u201d Reese explained, \u201cNo, my rent is more than that. It\u2019s $8,000. I\u2019m living beyond my means.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Low compensation for WNBA players has been a controversial topic for years. It reached a fever pitch when\u00a0Brittney Griner\u00a0was wrongfully detained in Russia while traveling to play with UMMC Ekaterinburg. With the league reaching new heights of popularity, fans are hoping this will lead to increased pay and benefits for all players, and not just superstars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t even be able to eat a sandwich.
