The bride wants to play ‘Lover’ at her Taylor Swift-themed nuptials, but her friend says it would be “insensitive,” according to a post on Reddit<\/p>\n

A bride planning a\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a>-themed wedding is getting grief from her close friend for wanting to play the pop star’s hit “Lover” during her ceremony.<\/p>\n

The friend explained the situation in\u00a0a recent post<\/a>\u00a0on a Reddit thread dedicated to Swift fans, writing that they were “beyond ecstatic” about the wedding theme and jumped right in to help with all of the preparations for the bride’s upcoming big day.<\/p>\n

“We’ve both had lots of fun \u2014 however we\u2019re disagreeing on one thing,” she continued. “During the ceremony she wants to play the song Lover, which is one of her favorite songs, and I get that but I\u2019m trying to tell her that it would be insensitive to play Lover since Taylor specifically added it to her denial playlist and it would be invalidating that.”<\/p>\n

The denial playlist is a reference to Swift’s curation of five exclusive Apple Music playlists back in April that explore the five stages of heartbreak. According to a press release at the time, the 14-time Grammy winner chose songs from her music catalog that fit each stage: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.<\/p>\n

“This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion. Results may vary,” the 14-time Grammy winner told Apple Music.<\/p>\n

Fans were quick to note that many of the songs that Swift is rumored to have written about ex-boyfriend\u00a0Joe Alwyn<\/a>\u00a0topped the denial playlist.<\/p>\n

“Lover” \u2014 a popular choice for weddings since its 2019 release \u2014 features lyrics about committing yourself to someone such as, “With every guitar string scar on my hand \/ I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover.”<\/p>\n

As for the Reddit poster’s opinion about the bride playing the romantic song at her ceremony, the friend wrote, “She keeps saying it\u2019s her wedding and she can play whatever.” The disagreement ultimately sparked “a fight” between the pair, leaving them at a standoff.<\/p>\n

“We had a fight about this yesterday and we haven\u2019t spoken much since but I love her and I don\u2019t want to miss her wedding. Please share your thoughts ASAP,” the friend concluded her post, which garnered more than 70 comments.<\/p>\n

Many people sided with the bride, arguing that it is her day, her way. “It\u2019s her choice for what song to play. The song means something to your friend,” one person wrote. “Why does it matter whatever playlist Taylor put it on years after it released?”<\/p>\n

Another person chimed in: “It is not your wedding. This day is supposed to be about joy for your friend, and you’re throwing your own opinions in there. It’s not about your opinions.”<\/p>\n

Other commenters pointed out that Swift herself appears to still be a fan of “Lover,” as she hasn’t nixed the song from her concert playlists.<\/p>\n

“Have you noticed Taylor still performs this song on the Eras Tour, while looking happy, and her dancers are there in couples? This is a romantic song made to be played at weddings and Taylor is still proud of it,” one person commented.<\/p>\n

“Lover is a love song. Taylor might feel differently about it now, looking back at her own relationship, but it doesn’t change the theme of the lyrics and song,” another Redditor wrote. “Also, music means different things to different people. Taylor used those playlists to tease TTPD [The Tortured Poets Department<\/em>], but she didn’t mean everyone had to echo her new feelings about old songs.”<\/p>\n
