Perhaps no rookie competition has been more covered by the media this year than that between Chicago Sky\u2019s Angel Reese and Indiana Fever\u2019s Caitlin Clark.<\/p>\n

Their regular season matchups in the WNBA sometimes got ugly for reasons out of the players\u2019 control, but for the most part, Reese and Clark\u2019s arrival to the league has led to a positive ripple effect causing\u00a0record numbers of viewers<\/a>\u00a0to tune into women\u2019s basketball games week after week.<\/p>\n

Reese spoke about her and Clark\u2019s inaugural season in the W in a recent feature article for the\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and had a candid take on their competitive battles throughout the years. Their on-court \u201crivalry\u201d dates all the way back to their collegiate playing days, when Reese suited up for LSU and Clark was breaking records with Iowa.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a full-circle moment of how women are viewed when it comes to trash-talking,\u201d Reese said. \u201cIt\u2019s okay in men\u2019s sports. We\u2019re going to normalize that in women\u2019s sports as well. So it\u2019s just super-competitive. I think we\u2019re two great competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese was referring to a notorious moment during the 2023 NCAA championship game when she appeared to taunt Clark by mimicking the Hawkeyes guard\u2019s \u201cYou Can\u2019t See Me\u201d gesture. LSU went on to beat Iowa, 102-85.<\/p>\n

But, the past is in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe brought a lot of fans to this league,\u201d Reese said of her and Clark\u2019s rookie campaigns. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019re going to continue to do that. And one day, hopefully, we\u2019ll be teammates.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese and Clark\u00a0notably linked up<\/a>\u00a0for the first time during the WNBA All-Star Game in July. With both players\u2019 Olympic futures looming in the horizon, that likely won\u2019t be the last time fans see the marquee stars share a court together.<\/p>\n
