Aaron Rodgers emphatically denied playing any part in Robert Saleh\u2019s dismissal from the Jets.<\/p>\n

And he took a moment Wednesday to show his support for his now-former head coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there, I\u2019m not gonna spend more than one sentence in response to it,\u201d Rodgers said on his weekly appearance on the \u201cPat McAfee Show.\u201d \u201cAnd that is that I resent any of those accusations because they are patently false. It\u2019s interesting the amount of power that people think that I have, which I don\u2019t. I love Robert.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jets\u00a0fired Saleh on Tuesday<\/a>\u00a0after two straight embarrassing losses, with the team owning a 2-3 record.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>Saleh owned a 20-36 overall record in three-plus seasons in charge.<\/p>\n

The Jets promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the year, starting with a \u201cMonday Night Football\u201d clash with the Bills.<\/p>\n

Owner Woody Johnson\u00a0said on a conference call Tuesday<\/a>\u00a0that the decision was his alone.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>\u201cThis is one of the most talented teams that has ever been assembled by the New York Jets,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI wanted to give this team the most opportunity to win this season. I feel that we had to go in a different direction and that\u2019s why I did that today. The change that we made today, that I made, I believe will bring new energy and positivity that will lead to more wins starting now.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that he spoke with Rodgers Monday after\u00a0Sunday\u2019s 23-17 loss to the Vikings in London<\/a>, but that the two didn\u2019t talk about Saleh and that Rodgers had no impact on the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I did talk to Woody,\u201d Rodgers said Wednesday. \u201cWoody called me on Monday night. We had a short conversation. I appreciated the call. It was a genuine call. He just asked me how I was doing. Obviously, I got rolled up on in the game, my ankle got pretty banged up, so he was just calling and asking how I was doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked about the game and how disappointed I was in my performance, that I\u2019m gonna play better and that we\u2019re gonna get this thing turned around. And then we hung up. At that point, Woody has no obligation to let me know what his plans are. Whether or not he knew what he was doing in that moment is inconsequential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodgers, who pushed back his McAfee appearance from Tuesday to Wednesday in light of the news, had\u00a0vehemently defended his relationship<\/a>\u00a0with Saleh in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

He continued that sentiment Wednesday, praising Saleh for being a \u201cfamily man.\u201d<\/p>\n
